Rolex Comex

The Rolex-Comex collaboration is one of the most famous partnerships in the history of luxury watches and has produced around 3,000 Toolwatches. They have been produced by the Geneva-based manufacturer for the French diving company Comex. The charm of a Comex from Rolex lies in the professional environment and its special purpose in which it was worn. The cooperation is not limited to toolwatches but also includes the production of instrumental testing devices used by Rolex to manufacture timepieces. Therefore, in one of Rolex's manufacturing buildings, a testing device developed by Comex can simulate a diving depth of at least 3,900 metres. This is how the pressure resistance of the Rolex Sea-Dweller Deep Sea is tested.

Rolex Comex Sea-Dweller

The collaboration, which began in the 1960s, launched a unique product in 1967 that revolutionised professional diving: the Rolex Sea-Dweller. The joint project was the world's first watch to feature a helium valve. While professional divers often complained about watch glasses popping off due to the large pressure change, the helium valve positioned on the case at nine o'clock allowed hydrogen and oxygen molecules to pass through quickly.

To this day, the Sea-Dweller is known as a diving watch for professional use. Due to its history, the Rolex Comex model is one of the most sought-after references - especially the first reference 1665.
