The voice of memory
The success of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Automatic was ground-breaking. In fact, the original timepieces from the 1950s and 1960s are still highly sought after watches by watch enthusiasts and collectors. The original models can be discovered on the second-hand market and are priced in relation to the most recent resale price – a factor that illustrates the permanent value of the vintage timepieces.
The original Memovox has been supplemented over the years with numerous distinguishing models. The Memovox line has been equipped with date displays, world time dials, and even perpetual calendars. Jaeger-LeCoultre has also developed a stylish line of the Memovox that is catered to fashion-conscious supporters of the brand. These models included the Memovox speed Beat and the JLC Memovox Snowdrop. The most recent models, such as the Master Control Memovox Reveil, offer modern and functional advancement like alarm volume adjustment and vibration alerts.
Nevertheless, the elements of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox always remain faithful to the spirit of the original design. An interesting tidbit: the name Memovox is derived from two Latin words – “Memor” meaning remembering and “Vox” meaning voice. Together, the words create Memovox, or “the voice of memory”, which is a more than suitable name for the timepiece.
